Relocating to Chicago may seem overwhelming, but here are some tips to make the process easier:

First, narrow down your areas of interest. Some factors to consider are proximity to your place of employment, whether you drive or use public transportation, and distance to your favorite Chicago attractions. Google Maps and the CTA website will be a great help to you in this part of your search.

Once you’ve picked a few neighborhoods that you like, do your research. Consider the most important aspects of your lifestyle – a convenient neighborhood, school districts, etc. Check out walkscore.com, greatschools.org, city-data.com, or even review websites like yelp. They will prove invaluable!

Next, whether you’re renting or buying, make sure your price range is realistic. Search for listings that are in your neighborhoods of interest and see what amenities are offered within your range. If your desired amenities match your price point and neighborhood, you’re on the right track. If you’re buying, it’s always a good idea to talk with a mortgage professional about getting pre-approved.

Most importantly, talk to a real estate professional. At Prudential Rubloff, our Relocation Department and team of certified relocation agents are happy to provide you with the knowledge and assistance that you need to make your transition to Chicago a smooth one.
